FAQs

Who’s behind skp?

Hi there. Kat Feldhouse here, the primary voice behind this project. Born and raised in Metro Detroit, I grew up with a lot of curiosity around my Polish heritage - especially the cooking - and I would spend hours with my grandma Sophie learning to make everything from scratch…and I do mean everything! She taught me to appreciate whole foods and slow living.

I never really considered my life long passion for food and health as a vocation. I realize now my love for learning and teaching, interest in debunking dogma, and my own commitment to clean and simple living formed a roadmap to a career as a writer and wellness coach.

Did you go to school for this sort of thing?

Sure did. I studied integrative nutrition at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and am a Certified Health Coach. In addition to my BA in Communications - Print Journalism from the University of Michigan, I have successfully completed certificate programs in Child Health & Nutrition, Plant-Based Nutrition, and Positive Psychology.

I also have to recognize my Detroit community. I’ve had the privilege over the years to work with the inspiring and dedicated people behind Detroit Food Academy, Fair Food Network, and Detroit Waldorf School, and have been fortunate to participate in important conversations with folks who know far more than I could ever aspire to understand. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to continually learn and grow from you.

As a coach, what services do you offer?

As a wellness coach, I offer 1:1 coaching sessions to all remotely. As a writer I can help tell your brand or individual authentic story.

Drop me a line for details and pricing* on any of my offerings and to schedule a free 30-minute consult.

What is your favorite thing to make?

I love baking and spent the last year trying to learn the art of baking a good sourdough and gluten-free loaf. It’s a science and truly takes practice (and patience!) but the reward of homemade fermented bread is worth it.

How can I contribute?

Send me a message on the contact page and let me know what you have to share. Whether it’s a tried-and-true kitchen hack, your favorite tip to store veggies, or a family recipe you’d like to share with the masses, I want to hear from you!

*Scholarships are available to those in need of support but find coaching cost-prohibitive. Please let me know. I’m here to help.
